After I posted the discussion of the Stockholm Syndrome, I remembered the following quote by FDR (sorry about the delay, but my 80-year old brain is not as agile as I want to believe it once was.

FDR once said: “The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic State itself. That, in its essence, is Fascism — ownership of government by an individual, by a group or by any controlling private power.”  Quoted by Molly Ivans in a July 3, 2001 column.

A great addition to your Stockholm Syndrome post.

I was a great fan of Molly Ivans and I miss her commentary.

We have a burgeoning Fascsit Movement today. It is alive and well.

The descendants of the proposed Coup, which General Smedley Butler refused to lead, are still at work.

The Brothers Koch are the sons of one of the founders of the John Birch Society.

The Bush Crime Family are descendents of Prescott Bush who was involved in the attempted coup.

These people have not given up at their attempt to wipe out the Middle Class. They have ben joined by the DeVoss Family, the Walton Family, The Mellon-Scaife family, the Coors Family and a few others who are actively trying to solidify a Fascist Government in the United States.

Sinclair Lewis’ book (which I recently read) “It Can’t Happen Here” was prescient.

When the Governor of Michigan now has the power to unilaterally take over any unit of government in that state, and push aside all elected officials that is almost exactly what is described in Lewis’ novel.

“When Fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the Flag and carrying a cross”.

    Please keep writing.

Jim: Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I use this blog to vent my frustrations. When I click on “publish”, it is similar to putting a message in a bottle and throwing it into the Gulf of Mexico. I notify a list of other malcontents but I know they have a gazillion other temptations for their attention. I am flattered that you respond.
BTW, where did you get the information about the lineage of our fascist wannabes? I have read about the Koch’s, but I didn’t know about the other information you include.

I have finally determined (reinforced by a column in yesterday’s NY Times) that Obama is the first “third party” President. He is not a Democrat, but an Independent which appears to be grounded in a philosophy of passionless pragmatism.
